THE BELLOWS FALLS FARMERS MARKET CELEBRATES THE FOURTH OF JULY
Bellows Falls, VT—June 30, 2008—What better way to celebrate independence day than by coming down to the Bellows Falls Farmers Market on Friday evening? “I think the farmers market is the perfect place to celebrate the fourth of July,” says market manager Abi Miller. “The farmers market represents independence to me: independence from the normal food system, from unhealthy eating, from the industrial food model. The farmers market is more like old-time America!” The Bellows Falls Farmers Market will hold its normal hours this Friday, July 4th. In addition to the afternoon market, you can find the farmers market at the Saxtons River Fourth of July parade, starting at 9am on Friday morning, complete with giant vegetables and a hay-filled wagon. On Friday’s market, customers can expect to see more delicious tomatoes, cilantro, summer squash, lettuce, strawberries, loaves of bread, pies, and cheese—everything they might need for their Saturday Fourth of July picnic. The market on Friday will feature a musical duo with Putney’s state representative in the legislature, Mike Mrowicki, and Amelia Struthers. At the following market on July 11th, music will be provided by Mogoya, a recently formed group from Brattleboro which combines elements of Motown, soul and world to produce music that appeals to both dancers and listeners. Additionally, July 11th’s market will be Walpole Day, featuring organizations and vendors from Walpole, New Hampshire. Eligible families can continue to use their Farm to Family coupons at the market to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. There are eight participating Farm to Family vendors at the Bellows Falls Farmers Market. Eligible non-WIC families can call SEVCA for coupons; families already receiving WIC can call the Springfield Health Department at 802.885.5778 to find out about receiving Farm to Family coupons, or come to the market to get their coupons directly from the Health Department on July 18th, 25th, and August 8th. The market takes place every Friday night from 4 to 7 at the Waypoint Center in downtown Bellows Falls. For more information about the Bellows Falls Farmer’s Market, contact market manager Abi Miller at bellowsfallsmarket@gmail.com or 802.387.6128.
